OVERVIEW

Label Insight

From 2008 until 2020, I worked at Label Insight. I was the only designer for the first 9 years until I was able to build out and manage a design team. I’ve created a tour in Figma of some of the major applications I designed there. It’s best if I give the tour in person, but I’ve created this annotated version so anyone can get a sense of the breadth of work I did at their convenience. I will showcase my later R&D work for applications and features that hadn’t launched by the time I left, in a separate demo.

The call: Being the only designer across five product teams and roughly twenty applications had one hidden advantage: I was the only person who could see every team’s workflow at once. So instead of just hand-designing screens I’d never keep up with, I built a system, not just components, but workflow patterns drawn from what each silo actually needed. Teams could plug in templates that stayed consistent and recognizable across the whole platform, so a user who learned one part already knew the next.

The results: Teams shipped pages and whole features without waiting on me, because the patterns carried the decisions I’d otherwise have made by hand. One designer stopped being the bottleneck for twenty applications, and I got to spend my time where it mattered: harder problems and net-new use cases instead of production. Label Insight Figma Tour
